Flying Stories

Many of you know that I flew in the U.S. Marine Corps for over 11 years.  And OBTW, I have to spell that out because the first time I met my wife  in Talahassee Fl back in 1995, see asked me what “us mc ca” was?  I just looked at her and said , “what?”  Where and how did you get us mc ca out of USMC.  Needles to say she didn’t have a lot of experience with the Marine Corps, but she was soon to find out.

When you fly a fighter jet, you accept the risks involved and understand that someday might be your last even though you did everything right.  It goes with the territory!  The stories of close calls and near death experiences are kept very quiet for the only reason for peace of mind for our loved ones and confidence that everything up in the sky is under control.

This page is not meant to re-hash all the close calls or near death experiences, although I might comment on them from time to time because I believe it wasn’t my time to go and I had a lot more to share on this earth.  I have to say that I was extremely lucky in the air and fly with some amazing pilots during my time in the Corps.  From instructors to students, they all taught me something more than flying, something about life.

I remember one afternoon training a great new pilot in our squadron how to perform an aerial maneuver to defeat a missile.  It was late in the day and we had been……
